Each company was evaluated on their filed patents based on over 15 key factors.
Here’s what we found:
The size of each company’s bubble on the scorecard represents the relative size of their IP portfolio. We ranked IP strength on past case history, country jurisdiction, filing elements, and 10 other critical factors. The IP innovation score considers the algorithmic approximation to recently identified emerging technologies in each company’s field, referenced forward citations, and several other factors.
Our analysis revealed Visa as a top leader in FinTech, with an extensive patent portfolio that ranks high in both innovation and strength. In contrast, Alibaba has a large portfolio and high innovation score but ranks low in IP portfolio strength. Google and Samsung each ranked near the middle of both scores, reflecting great growth potential.
